Disrespect the hotel staff- I will turn your family against you Medium Story from my old hotel: There was a guest who booked a room under the family/friends rate. (For those who don't know, if you work at a hotel you can get massive deals and sometimes the deals can extend to family and friends but the employee has to agree and confirm these people are family/friends) Anyway, this guest trashes the room- I'm talking body fluids being left outside the bathroom. It took 2

housekeepers 2 extra hours to clean it up enough so that the room could be resold. Who is going to pay for the overtime? Well the guest is off course. They were charged a $250 excessive cleaning fee. A few days later the guest calls and wants to know why she was charged. I explained why. Guest- Well I don't appreciate not being contacted and told ahead of time that I would be charged!

Me- Well we didn't appreciate you leaving vomit and feces in the room for housekeeping to clean up. Guest- They are housekeepers! That's their job! At this point, I inform her the charges will stand and hang up. But my petty self decided that the $250 charge wasn't enough. So I go to my immediate manager, Roy. Now Roy is a great guy. Give you the shirt off his back kind of guy. But if you him off, best believe he will come at you with everything. Roy

investigated the reservation and found out who the guest's relative was, and what hotel they worked at, and what their position was (believe it or not, it was in the housekeeping department) Roy then called the other hotel's manager. He explained what happened, and then mentioned that although the guest was not an actual employee, as she got a discount from a hotel employee she was representing the hotel. So now his employees could not book reservations at our hotel anymore until we felt comfort

back. In addition, he was considering stopping any walks from the other hotel if this was the kind of guest coming over. (walks are when a hotel is oversold and so the hotel will pay for the guest to stay at another hotel property) This other hotel was also part of Smwilton, and was the most comparable hotel to ours. All the others were in a higher class and therefore would cost more to walk guests. The manager of the other hotel had to have a long talk to his employee about her relative and her

In addition, Roy filed a complaint with corporate against the guest, including statements from me, the housekeepers who cleaned the room, and photos of what the room looked like. Needless to say, the guest lost their shiny profile and was banned from the franchise. I also. heard through the hotel grapevine that the employee took her off her approved discount list and got the whole family mad at her for possibly jeopardizing her job.

tanyagrzez Why am I not surprised that family devalues the job of the family member they got the discount from? I'm glad the guest had familial shame in addition to the fee. cometview "Dishonor! Dishonor on your whole family! Dishonor on you! Dishonor on your COW!" • Mushu (Mulan, 1998)

Vivalagagagagagaga I work central reservations for rislton and the friends and family people are always and entitled. We always dream of getting them banned, thanks for making our dreams come true pcolathrowaway32505 I'll never understand that, I've used friends and family, being the friend and I try to leave the room like it looks like it wasn't even used

eightezzz What an awful person & a disgusting guest. Absolutely disrespectful to put their friend/family member in this position. I don't let people use the F&F discount unless I trust the person 100% and they're immediate family.

rebekahster 100%. Would I trust this family member alone in my own home for an extended time without supervision ? If the answer is negative then I'd seriously reconsider leaving them unsupervised at my workplace.

Solid-Economist-9062 Handled the right way. I swear to God people who pull "it" like this......is this how they act at home? Do they next to the toilet at their mom's house? Scumbags. Should have charged them $500 $250 for the cleaning and $250 for - not being able to sell that room again that night. Screw THEM!!!! They think they can act like this and get away with it? Make them pay!

Sophoife Good grief! Unfortunately came down with gastro once while staying in a hotel (2001?). Spent most of the night in the bathroom, rinsed out the sheet and all used towels, left them soaking in the bath, washed the floor, wrote a hugely apologetic note to housekeeping and left them $100 for having to deal with the smell. Also reported myself to front desk on checkout.

Got a letter from property GM thanking me (!) for doing my best and for considering the housekeeping staff. - I would never do what that person did and I was paying close to full rack rate (busy time). Still too embarrassed to return to that property though.

Tsukaretamama Roy is the prime example of how not all superheroes wear capes. I'm so glad you have a manager who back you up!

SkwrlTail The amount of sheer entitlement on the folks using these rates is staggering. This is a gift! A nice thing we are doing for you! Slap us in the face and maybe we don't wanna do nice things for you any more.
